The show features the action of a special police team, formed by the governor of Hawaii Island to investigate the crimes taking place there, as well as kidnappings and terrorism. Steven McGarrett is the team leader and has Danny Williams as his partner, a detective transferred from New Jersey, and high school friends Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua.
Each episode begins with a murder or an uninjured body and follows the investigation of the team authorized by the governor or the representative himself. The task force uses the authority of the governor’s office to gain access to crime scenes and investigations involving the Honolulu Police Department.
This series is a reinvention of the original that ran between 1968-1980. To this day, it received positive reviews and was well received by the public.
